Catalog Tips:
· Try your search term(s) first as a "Keyword" search.
· Too many results? Re-run the search as at “Title” or “Subject” search.
· Too few results? Try truncating a word in your search to pick up variation. Typing econ* searches for economic, economics, economist, etc.
· If you find one resources that seems just right for your project, look at the “Subject Headings” linked to it to find more resources that are similar.
[ Choose the “Articles & eResources” link to find over 100 databases of magazine, journal, newspaper articles; business directories; art images and more. This link also routes you to time-saving web portals.
Tips for Articles & eResources:
· Start with one of the good general databases: ProQuest Central or SIRS.
· Keep your initial search simple—set the limit for “Full Text” right away, but save other limits (such as date ranges, number of pages, peer-reviewed, etc.) until you see the results list.
· Be aware of search strategies : Boolean, proximity, phrase searching can each produce different results with the same search terms
· Look for common database tools (suggested subject headings, abstracts, citation help, emailing and save options) on the edges of the page, often in a color bar above the search boxes or in a separate frame on the right or left of your results list.
[ Get Library help even when the Library is closed.
· Follow the “Research Guides” link to see suggested resources for your academic program, or for general topics such as avoiding plagiarism or evaluating web resources.
