Scenery, as we know it today, is a product of the Italian Renaissance. To a large extent, it is based on the discovery of the rules of perspective and their application to the world of architecture. The early evolution of the theatrical scenery is the work of a number of artists over a period of approximately two hundred and twenty five years: 1508 to 1638.

Costume design is the most personal aspect of design. The costume designer must create clothes for characters that, on the one hand, reflect the ideas and goals of the play, but, on the other hand should look like the character chose the clothing in the same way you choose yours every day.

The institute was dedicated to creating socially conscious theater and formulating a cohesive system of training for the actor. With its pioneering Broadway productions, many of which were directed by Strasberg, the institute quickly distinguished itself as one of the most revolutionary theatre companies in history.

The Actors Studio was formed to provide a place where professional actors could work together between jobs or during long runs to continue to develop their craft and to experiment with new forms in creative theatre work.

The sound designer plans and provides the sound effects in the play. The composer writes any original music the show may require. All the music and/or effects in a play considered as a whole make up the "soundscape."

Lighting is generally most effective when you have good control of what your light is hitting and not hitting, and the best way to make a plan of attack for your stage is to divide it into zones.

Theater sound engineers produce and amplify sounds and effects for theatrical performances. A strong knowledge in electronics and sound technology is essential for this position and vocational training can lend greatly to a sound engineers experience.
