Scholarly Articles vs. Popular Magazine Articles

Periodical publications such as magazines, newspapers and journals vary in quality and depth of coverage. Instructors will frequently want you to select articles from scholarly journals (sometimes called "refereed" or "peer-reviewed" journals, though the terms don't mean exactly the same thing).

General reference database for over 175 subjects from magazines, journals and newspapers, including peer-reviewed and scholarly works.
JSTOR This link opens in a new window
a database service that helps researchers access archived, full-text scholarly content. Contains articles in the fields of: history, language, literature, education, philosophy, classical studies, music, art and art history.
Dates of available issues are controlled by a "moving wall"—an agreed-upon delay between the current volume of the journal and the latest volume available on JSTOR—usually 3 to 5 years.
