Nonprofit educational institution dedicated to interpreting the social & architectural history of the Bellamy Mansion & promoting a greater understanding of historic preservation, architectural history & restoration methods in North Carolina.

Since 1966 the Historic Wilmington Foundation (HWF) has worked to protect and preserve the irreplaceable architectural and historical resources of the Lower Cape Fear region.

The Historical Society of the Lower Cape Fear was founded in 1956 as a non-political, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to the preservation and study of history in the Lower Cape Fear region. The collect and preserve records and materials and disseminate knowledge and information pertaining to the history of the area.

The Commission is 9 member board to promote, enhance and preserve the character of the Wilmington historic districts." The HPC hears and decides requests for Certificates of Appropriateness in accordance with the adopted Wilmington Design Guidelines for Historic Districts and Landmarks. Design review by the HPC is required for exterior alterations to properties located within the city's historic districts in order to ensure compatibility with the historic character of the district. The Design Guidelines do not impose a particular architectural style, but encourage compatible design, whether traditional or contemporary."
